restore your well being
Holistic Bodywork
What does this mean?!
Working "holistically" means I treat YOU, not a list of symptoms or specific body parts. The pain you feel in your physical body is only part of the story. For example, your back pain might also be causing an issue elsewhere in your body because it's having to adjust itself in order to keep functioning. So you might also have a shoulder or ankle issue. Or the back pain might be the effect of a problem that's started somewhere else, yet you feel most pain in your back! How you feel about that pain, how it's affecting your lifestyle, your relationships is another part of the story. Negative thoughts and belief systems about your problem can increase the level of pain you experience, as can feelings of not being listened to or supported. If energy isn't flowing freely throughout your system, that's also a contributing factor to your overall wellbeing. We are physical, emotional, mental and energetic beings. We are complex creatures! So this is why it's crucial to treat you holistically; as a whole human being.
The treatment experience
The very first thing I want to do is create a safe space to allow your nervous system to settle. I use a specifically selected playlist of soul-soothing music and organic essential oil blends. I work slowly, always listening to what I feel beneath my hands, so I can feel when your body is ready to allow me in.
I use a blend of techniques which include gentle fascia work, deep tissue massage, release of trigger points, clearing blockages in energy meridians, specific pressure point work to bring balance to your system, relevant stretches and Chinese cupping when appropriate.
The intended outcome
The focus is to work with you to get you out of pain and improve any limited range of movement in as few sessions as possible. To leave you feeling relaxed, restored, cared for, listened to and to give you tools and advice to aid your recovery.
What you might experience...
Each treatment is unique - for you and for me! You might experience sensations that are new to you, have thoughts or memories or visions that pop up which may surprise you. Some areas of the body may feel a bit uncomfortable when touched at first, but then the sensation will usually ease. It's common to find yourself blissfully floating between conscious and sub-conscious states.
Common signs of imbalance
-
Pain, both chronic and acute
-
Frequent headaches, migraines, dizziness
-
Digestive issues - bloating, constipation, loose stools
-
Lack of energy, feeling sluggish and heavy
-
Feeling stressed, anxious, depressed, overwhelmed
-
Insomnia - difficulty getting to or staying asleep
After your treatment
You might find yourself yawning a lot, feeling a bit tired or you may feel energised and refreshed, it just depends on how your system is processing the changes that have occurred. You will continue to process the treatment after you've left me so if you can, allow yourself some quiet time afterwards to get the most out of your session. And always drink plenty of water to help the process of information and detoxification.
A note about Cupping
This Traditional Chinese Medicine method uses small cups placed on the skin to create a suction that draws out stagnation. With your consent, I may choose to use this method as part of your treatment.
*Please note that the cups leave suction marks on the skin.
Some can be quite obvious, others less so. Either way it's nothing to worry about but please be aware that the marks will likely remain for the next 7-10 days before disappearing.*
